St Oswald's Children's Service provides specialist short breaks to children with progressive, life shortening conditions. Children from 0 - 18 can access the service. Families from across the region - Sunderland, South Tyneside, Northumberland, North Tyneside, North Durham, Newcastle and Gateshead - can benefit from our services. We follow a holistic approach, addressing not only the physical symptoms, but also the emotional and spiritual needs too. Our Children Service is linked with our adult unit, St Oswald's Hospice.

Our Children's Unit has a 'home-from-home' ambiance and our aim is to make every child feel special. We provide a 24 hours, 7 days a week service, supported by a team of skilled staff who can respond to meet the complex health, emotional and social needs of the children and their families. Our specialist facilities offer a wide range of services to children and their families.

Services Purchased:
No charge is made for our services ensuring care is available to everyone who needs us. Annual running costs for both our adult and children's unit now exceeds £6 million. Each year we have to raise £4.5 million from voluntary giving. The rest is provided by statutory authorities.
